Fiberlink Launches Real-Time Remediation to Address Vulnerabilities at Remote and Mobile EndpointsFiberlink's New Service Offering Goes Beyond Quarantining to Provide Real-Time Remediation of Out-of-Compliance Computing Devices BLUE BELL, Pa. – Aug. 9, 2005 – Fiberlink Communications Corp ., a leading innovator and trusted enterprise partner for secure mobile workforce solutions, today announced the launch of Real-Time Remediation ™, an optional extension to the company’s existing Enterprise Vulnerability Management (EVM) service offering, which it introduced to the marketplace last year. Available immediately, Real-Time Remediation is the first service of its kind to continuously inspect mobile computing devices, detect out-of-compliance conditions, and most importantly, seamlessly fix the problem in real-time at the endpoint, before a mobile worker is allowed to connect to the corporate network. This new endpoint security solution from Fiberlink enables enterprise customers to set security thresholds and corporate usage policies for any mobile worker who works away from the corporate office, giving IT a greater level of control over the myriad threats that mobile computing introduces. Real-Time Remediation ensures mobile and remote devices are kept in alignment with company policies. Mobile workers can receive new policies, security software updates and anti-virus definition updates without ever connecting to, or being physically present on, the corporate network. Real-Time Remediation is delivered through Fiberlink’s Extend360 ™ mobile access software and supported by Fiberlink’s global access network. Through tight integration between EVM and Extend360, Fiberlink enables its customers to mandate that the computing device be in full compliance before it permits access to the corporate network. Unlike other endpoint security software solutions available today, Fiberlink’s solution can remediate vulnerabilities prior to allowing the user to initiate a VPN connection, whereas traditional solutions attempt to block access after the VPN tunnel is established, and the corporate network is exposed to a security threat. Additionally, Fiberlink goes beyond existing “quarantine” products by automating the remediation process for the vast majority of vulnerabilities typically encountered. Therefore, the end-user does not need to take any explicit action to remediate the vulnerability. The remediation process happens seamlessly and invisibly, requiring no intervention from the mobile user and enabling them to continue with their work without disruption Fiberlink’s new Real-Time Remediation service enables enterprise IT organizations to:
“Most endpoint security software products today focus on blocking – or quarantining – users who pose a security threat, typically after that user has already connected to the corporate environment and potentially infected it. While valuable, we don’t think this goes far enough,” said William Wagner, chief marketing officer for Fiberlink. “Fiberlink’s approach is to remediate the vulnerability before an infected user connects to the corporate network so that the mobile worker is disrupted as little as possible and can get on with their work.” Fiberlink offers its Real-Time Remediation solution as a managed service that provides tremendous cost advantages and flexibility to its customers. Because of this, customers do not have to bear the capital expense associated with purchasing endpoint security hardware and software, nor the costs of ongoing management and training. Fiberlink administers the deployment, support and overall management of the solution giving our customers the ability to focus on other IT responsibilities.
