Expert: Companies construct strategies around devices, apps

16 Sep 2011

It's becoming increasingly evident that companies are focused on two things when it comes to an enterprise mobility program: devices and mobile applications.

Speaking recently with TMCnet, Sam Liu, the vice president of marketing at Partnerpedia, a provider of enterprise app store solutions, said smartphones and tablets, as well as the mobile apps they run, are driving mobility. Therefore, he said, mobile application management and mobile device management will adapt accordingly.

"We need to think in terms of the user and what’s most convenient and effective for them given a particular context. Instead of tying apps to specific form factors, organizations may need to take the view of apps that may have multiple entry/exit points from the view of the user," Liu said.

He also said that more companies will open their own app storefronts in the near future and Apple's iPhone and devices run on the Android mobile operating system will rule the enterprise mobility sector.

Apps have always been an important aspect of enterprise mobility, but a recent Business 2 Community report said companies should choose wisely when deploying them. Not all apps are good for all businesses.
