Mobile malware on the horizon
2 Aug 2011
Companies need to be careful when it comes to the notion that mobile malware is rapidly spreading. According to a recent PC World report, while the phenomenon isn't quite as serious as some would believe, the serious threats from mobile malware are on the horizon. It's true that cybercriminals are turning at least some of their attacks on mobile users, but estimations of malware on smartphones and tablets may be overblown, according to PC World. This is especially true when it comes to Google's Android mobile operating system. "Though the extent of Android malware has been overstated, it's best to learn now how to protect yourself and your data from attacks, instead of waiting until mobile malware becomes a more serious problem," Armando Rodriguez wrote for PC World. Companies can protect themselves now by deploying a mobile device management solution. Many of the tools include mobile security measures, as well as the ability to govern the use of devices. A recent IT Pro report showed a bit more concern for the security of data housed on mobile devices. It listed mobile data security as the seventh-most challenging area for all companies. |
