LTE still needs to grow to entice enterprises

30 Aug 2011

Mobile devices these days provide many applications and services for users to improve their social life or web-browsing capabilities. However, many of these run-of-the-mill services are not as enticing to enterprises as they used to be - which could be a problem for the growth of the 4G standard LTE.

The ability to update statuses and upload pictures to profile pages isn't going to spark a business' need for the product. For LTE mobile devices to win over enterprises, wireless carriers need to make their smartphones indispensible.

According to Network World, businesses are looking for mobile solutions that can improve efficiency by replacing their wired devices. For wireless providers to increase LTE's worth in the enterprise, they must be able to accomplish this without demanding too many sacrifices in terms of security or connectivity.

Additionally, one of the main enterprise demands of LTE products is a truly private network. This issue is especially prevalent in light of the News Corporation scandal this summer. Organizations want to be able to communicate efficiently without having to worry about any of their private data being available to the public. Also, with a private network, a high-traffic macro-level must not deter any software or applications by slowing them down, the news source reported.

According to a 2010 study by Forrester Research, more than half of the responding firms claimed that their IT departments supported personally owned smartphones. With the demand for mobile technologies in businesses increasing, LTE has some big expectations to fill.
