Many companies, a recent CIOL report stated, remain unprepared for the influx of smartphones, tablets and mobile applications they will need to cope with during the next several years, if they haven't already.

Much goes into preparing a mobile device management policy. Companies must consider security, platform adoption, user interface, corporate plans and company culture. And it doesn't stop there, according to the report.

"As if that were not enough, enterprises have to also deal with the other set of concerns: existing infrastructure, information and communications systems, synchronization, data access and business process support," Praful Bhoyar wrote for the news provider.

Preparing ahead of time is the best way for organizations to reduce any headaches that may arise. Assessing needs and building a mobility policy around them will ensure the IT department is better equipped to deal with any issues as they arise, according to experts.

Conversely, government agencies are preparing themselves by taking a close look at mobile security, according to a recent Defense Systems report. Making the distinction between data at rest and data in motion allows federal IT department to direct security measures better.
